"The Imaginary City 2008...
The inhabitants of Liverpool's secret (and mysterious) twin city 'Roopville' who
come in all colours, shapes and sizes, have a variety of unusual abilities and
think that they are the most fantastic example (in the entire Universe) of how
to live together in peace and harmony, appeared in Liverpool City Centre's Museums
District on 10th August 2008 for 1 day only.
The Mayor of Roopville - and his bossy wife, brought their lively and bustling city to life,
statues became animated and other incredible creatures stepped out of brick work and up
through cracks in the pavement to take Liverpool's children on a journey of experiences
that excited and exposed them to a diverse range of creative activity, igniting a passion
for the arts and inspiring them to become the artists and audiences of the future - they
had to watch out though, some-one was around to spoil the day, things may not have gone
according to the Mayor's plans and it was Liverpool's inhabitants who were the ones that
eventually shone out in this wonderful and imaginative celebration of uniqueness.
"How it began...
The Liverpool Children's Festival is an arts and cultural event For Children and Young People,
planned By Children and Young People. The Liverpool Young Culture Action Group came together in 2000,
determined to create a FREE festival that would be open and accessible to everyone in the city.
Lots of organisations are now working with the group to help make it the best festival for
Children and Young People in the world. The group, along with their partners, have brought
an explosion of activity and creativity to the Museum's District on William Brown Street
every year, allowing Children and Young People to get involved in workshops, activities,
sports, performances and exhibitions."
We hope you came to the Museum District between 11am and 4pm to join in all activities,
workshops and magical performances. If not, there is always next year!
